Power to the Peaceful 2012

We're back!

WE ARE BACK!! The Power to the Peaceful Festival is a San Francisco tradition, celebrating 13 years as one of California’s largest annual music, art and action sports events with over 50,000 attendees, 200 exhibitors, vendors, DJs, athletes, artists and speakers.

MUSIC, ART, COMMUNITY & CONSCIOUSNESS for people of all ages and from around the world, the POWER TO THE PEACEFUL FESTIVAL (PTTP) is a San Francisco premiere event bringing you diversity in both its lineup and the attendees. Each year the festival has expanded to offer international musicians on the main stage, a DJ tent, open-air art gallery, eco village, social justice forum, green vendors and food booths, a healing arts tent, as well as a kids zone offering arts and crafts, live theater, music and activities. PTTP has grown from a local community based event to an international destination attracting attendees from Japan, Europe, Australia and South America.

The Power To The Peaceful Foundation serves to provide funding and awareness to local, national and international charities that focus on health, education, youth and environmental causes. The brainchild of singer/humanitarian Michael Franti, The Power To The Peaceful Foundation benefits from several music, art and action events per year, the biggest of which is The Power To The Peaceful Festival that has taken place in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1999 and has drawn over 50,000 to Golden Gate Park each year. The Festival’s mission is to educate and inspire people to serve in ways that empower and enrich their lives and the lives of others. The Power To The Peaceful Foundation is a 501c3 based in San Francisco, CA.

We work closely with grassroots organizations, businesses and other non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) to put on events that raise consciousness about the needs of the world today and inspire action that addresses those needs.

Partnerships are an essential part of PTTP’s success and sustainable growth, just as much as the high environmental standards practiced at the event itself. A mainstage generator powered by biodiesel fuels and requiring all vendors to use biodegradable and compostable products is just the beginning. Aligning with Clean Vibes, a renowned green waste management company, has furthered our commitment to make each of our events more energy efficient than the last as we’re constantly finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint and highlighting new energy efficient technologies.

  • Announcement: Cancellation

    July 31, 2012, in News, Views: 13506

2012 Event Cancellation: Power to the Peaceful has become one of the most exciting free concerts in San Francisco, and as the organizers for this event, we are proud of what we bring to the City.  But we also have to be honest about the impact of the event’s overwhelming success: the crowd is getting bigger each year and more resources are needed to make sure everyone can enjoy the concert safely.

While the San Francisco Recreation & Park Dept and the SFPD have been supportive of Power to the Peaceful, and its Commission approved the event in May, as we were moving forward with the event planning, we recognized the harsh reality of hosting a popular free concert, and keeping the crowd safe. We are limited with resources to pay for the cost of the production, safety & crowd impact so we decided to cancel the concert. We are on a powerful journey, and we will be back peacefully."
